Description / Color / Consistency: A thick, clear, pale yellow to golden liquid.
Aromatic Summary / Note / Strength of Aroma: A base note with a medium aroma, Sandalwood is oriental and balsamic with a soft, sweet, rich, woody aroma.
Product Abstract: Some thirty species of sandalwood occur throughout Asia, Australia and the Pacific region. The evergreen is parasitic, burrowing its roots into nearby trees to gain sustenance for the first seven years, leaving the other to die. It can grow up to 9 meters (30 feet) high and has a brown-gray trunk, many smooth slender branches, leathery leaves and small pink-purple flowers. It can take thirty to sixty years for a tree to reach full maturity at which time it can be harvested and the oil distilled. The documented use of Sandalwood goes back 4000 years to India, Egypt, Greece and Rome when many temples and structures were built with it. This practice has steadily decreased to the point where Sandalwood is now only used for its oil because of over-harvesting. As with all of our oils, which we acquire ethically, this is obtained from the Mysore Region through state-sponsored auctions in India. Mysore Sandalwood has extensive uses in the perfume industry as a fixative and fragrance, and in body-care products.
Cautions: Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.
Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

Rating: This is by far the best Santalum Album you can get for the price. 5 stars for that availability, but 4 stars for Sandalwood diehards, and maybe 3 for the the snobs. Purely from a scent and aromatherapy perspective -- I have not used it in cosmetics or soaps -- it is a lovely, even, classic white sandalwood. Creamier and softer as Album vs. the sharper and sawdustier Spicatum, this oil is a true basenote, coming in and out, resting close to the skin. It seems to pulse in relaxing, quietly confident manner: it pops up in a whiff in the air even more beautifully than on the skin, but that whiff is so coyly here and then gone, you kind of just have to trust it'll happen again. And it does! A drop of this oil goes a long way. It's a little viscous, too, so one drop is a generous blob that can be used on a bunch of pulse points. This sandalwood is soft, woody, creamy, and just a barely-there hint of camphor that lets you know it's an essential oil and not a synthetic compound. There is also a very tiny sour note, almost a kind of floral, that again, smells very natural and gives some balance to the overall composition. In general, it's just a very lovely, mellow sandalwood. I use it to enhance my perfume by spreading a single drop to all my pulse points. I get so many compliments -- people cannot identify it, but stop to compliment me all the time. It's a closer type of sillage, too, so it feels intimate. I'll mix it sometimes with Spicatum and the sharper cedary sawdust notes give the Album a bit of an herbaceous, lively edge. It's great. I highly recommend.

Rating: I have seen, felt, and smelled true East Indian Sandalwood from a wood carver many years ago. And when I purchased this oil I was absolutely blown away by how perfect and true it smelled to the original! I will definitely purchase more as time goes on - I use it in everything from deodorant to candles, to some of my massage work.
I love NDA!
Rating: This sandalwood brand is the only brand I have tried and I have to say that this scent is amazing!
I totally agree with Daisy that it is not a strong smell. I find it stays very close to the skin.

Rating: First of all, I generally LOVE sandalwood, but although this one smells good to me, I actually prefer the 3% dilution of the East Indian Sandalwood for several reasons. Of note, I purchased the 3% dilution first, since it's much less expensive for the amount that you get. Then, since I loved it soooo much, I got this one. I must say that, much like other reviewers, I was disappointed because I expected this scent to be the same as the 3% only stronger. However, I find that it's not any stronger; it's actually pretty weak. In addition, the smell is very similar, but different, and overall I prefer the smell of the 3% dilution. If it weren't for how weak this scent is and how quickly I use it up as a result, I'd give it a higher rating, because I still do enjoy the smell. Of note, I also tried the African version, and that one has a much stronger scent, but it's not nearly as pleasant. So if you want a true Sandalwood EO, I'd recommend saving some money and going with the 3% dilution, which is absolutely HEAVENLY!

Rating: Just a warning: I ordered this oil about 2 yrs ago and it had no discernible scent other than vegetable oil. I have been letting it \"age\" and pulled it out today and still no scent. This is still shocking to me since all of the other oils NDA sells are far, far, superior to anything else available on the market today. I was thinking that maybe the scent that many of us, including myself, are after might be the synthetic version of sandalwood, so I am ordering that and will post an update.
New Directions Aromatics Response:
We have retested our Sandalwood in our lab following your comments. The quality of the Sandalwood oil is good. Please note that Sandalwood has a base note (components vaporize at higher temperatures) therefore the scent appears to be weak. Oils that vaporize at lower temperatures appear to have stronger scents as the components vaporize at room temperature and the scent reaches our noses immediately.

Rating: This EO is wonderful by itself. Subtle, but it lingers. It just smells and performs...expensively. Smooth and natural, mellow and unique. In a word, lovely.

Rating: I've been to India and sampled sandalwood there. The scent is supposed to be milky, fuzzy, woody, deep, relaxing and also it must be powerful. However, this sandalwood was flat, a bit woody and had some ylang ylang nuances to it. I was very upset with the quality of the aroma, however, if you're using it as a fixative and woody base it'll work at an average. This is why I give my rating 3 stars.
Rating: A very warm, subtle, and relaxing scent, wonderful blended with vanilla, and smells great blended with other scents as well. While it is a subtle scent, I find it to be long lasting. A great grounding oil for meditation, very balancing. I will be buying much more of this one. After reading the reviews, I decided to go ahead and splurge on this one. I'm so glad I paid the extra. I find the customer reviews on NDA's site so helpful when trying to decide which EO's to buy, comming from someone who has never been to an aromatherapy class, and new to the whole world of aromatherapy, I really apprieciate being able to read the opinions of previous customers, Thanks NDA, your products, prices, customer service and SATISFACTION are quality! I am a very pleased customer.

Rating: The scent is warm, complex and subtle...almost too subtle. I have to say that for the price I expected a stronger scent. Everyone raves about sandlewood, but it left me somewhat flat. This is my first experience with this essential oil and it's not what I expected. It's pleasant enough, but I'm afraid to blend it with anything. I think I will just use it on its own.

Rating: This is one oil I cannot live without. It's great for so many things: dry skin, eczema, cystitis, nervousness, it's calming and great for meditation. Plus the scent is out of this world! So woody and warm, and gets better with age. I always put in a few drops when I make cologne for my husband. Definitely worth it!

Rating: Sandalwood is my most essential essential oil. I use it on my skin both for it's medicinal properties and heavenly scent. My local health food store told me that they couldn't order me the 100% version, so I am very happy to find I can order it so easily online! This product is slightly more expensive than the brand I was buying in Australia, but seems to be a very good product.

Rating: Sandalwood is prized for so many reasons, and as a practicing aromatherapist, this is one essential oil that I can never be without. Sandalwood is also known as one of the few oils that improve with age, like a fine wine the longer you can keep it the better it gets! (though it is hard not to use it often as there are so many wonderful uses for this MUST HAVE essential oil/resin.)

Rating: Sandalwood, is one of the most prized oils of India, and China. In China, Sandalwood is prized for it\'s sedatary effect. Sandalwood\'s systemic effects have been used for numerous conditions worldwide, however the countries with the longest over-all use has been China, and India.
I give this oil the highest rating because of the many medicinal benefits. It is used
in a wide range of skin conditions, including acne. As well, it has also been used for treatments of dysentery
and gonorrhea. Because of the two abundant natural compounds, alpha and beta-santalol found in the structure of Sandalwood, it is prized for it\'s antibacterial, and sedating properties. I hope you enjoyed this review and want to add this product to your top \"have to haves\" in essential oils.
Because of the absorbic effect, it is not contraindicated in pregnancy and individuals with kidney disorders.
May Essential Abundance Be Yours,
