Product Abstract: Also known as Flower Of Flowers, Ylang Ylang is a tall tropical tree about 20 meters (60 feet) high with large fragrant, pink, mauve or yellow flowers; yellow heads are viewed as being the best in terms of quality. There are several grades of Ylang Ylang Essential Oil, which are extracted at different times during the flower's lengthy distillation. These grades are referred to as Extra, I, II, and III. Ylang Ylang is best suited for use in the perfumery and skincare industries. It was a popular ingredient of hair preparations in Europe and was known as Macassar Oil. The word anti-macassar originated from this, since an anti-maccasar was used to keep hair oil from staining upholstered furniture. In Indonesia Ylang Ylang has traditionally been strewn on the beds of newlyweds.
Cautions: Dilute before use; May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. It can also cause sensitivity on some people; excessive use of it may lead to headaches and nausea. Contact with eyes should be avoided.
Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

Rating: Im not sure if I would like it when I first smelled it, but then I mixed with Mandarin! Yep my forever blend. It is extremely strong alone, Im going to try the Ylang #3 and compare. But either which way, I’m keeping a Ylang on hand! It smells different, it has a sweet then spicy smell. The spicy I don’t really like. But I won’t give up, I trust ND

Rating: Where do I begin, this is one of THE MOST intoxicating ,seductive, sensual smelling essential oils out there! I can't begin to describe every single quality this oil possesses. Its sweet seductive aroma is so mesmerizing its very hard to take your nose away from it. Using it in massage blends with my wife, not only does she get the benefit of massage therapy but I get the aromatherapy benefits as well. When we use it in baths it helps you to connect on a deeper level as its aroma is hypnotizing to your senses. My wife uses it in blends to relieve PMS cramps and pains. Diffusing it at night its scent is so captivating and relaxing its lulls you into peaceful relaxation. These are only a few of the benefits that I have gotten out of this precious oil I'd be here forever describing how amazing ylang ylang is. I really can't get enough of it,its ashame I can't afford more because it is pricier but I can see why considering the benefits it brings. Amazing quality and one of the best prices you'll find so thank you new direction aromatic for giving me my new addiction, ylang ylang.

Rating: I do wish ND would list most of the constituents so i could compare with more information. For ylang ylang #1, we are told the main constituents are Linalool: 10.58% and Geranyl acetate: 9.42%.
For ylang ylang #3, we are given main constituents as α-farnesene: 24.5% and Benzyl Benzoate: 5.8%. But we are not told the linalool content of #3 or the farnesene or the benzoate content of #1. I assume #3 also includes linalool but I don't know.
So it is difficult for me to compare based on the chemistry or to maybe understand the reason for my preferring one over the other. I love ylang ylang but cannot tell which here to select. I hope this comment helps.
New Directions Aromatics Response:
Hi Louise, for more information about the constituents in each variety of Ylang Ylang (or in any oil), we encourage you to please view the document titled “GCMS - Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry Analysis,” which can be found under the GCMS & Documents tab on our product pages. We hope this helps, and please feel free to contact us again with any further inquiries. Have a great day!

Rating: I have used Ylang Ylang from two different companies and it really wasn't my thing. I used it more for a fragrance mixed in Lavender EO, but THIS Ylang Ylang #1 is so far THE BEST from NDA!!! It smells so wonderful right out of the bottle I am SOOOOOOOOOO IMPRESSED. I want to try #2 and #3 also but so far I'm in Love. I will be using it in Aromatherapy blends, it's too good to put in soap.
Rating: Love, love, LOVE this Ylang Ylang's aroma! In an effort to remain FDA compliant, I use this with great success to support my post-menopausal hormone balance. I made a mix ratio of 15 drops Clary Sage, 10 drops Ylang Ylang and 5 drops Sweet Orange -- apply a little "neat" from a roller bottle on wrists and/or décolletage. My hot flashes were immediately decreased from raging at least once an hour to one mild flash in the evening. My friends whom I have given samples to have similar results. It's our now magic blend. I'm repeating this on the Orange and Clary Sage reviews... it is JUST that good!

Rating: Intoxicating, sensual, floral scent that can very calming for nerves and anxieties. I have this and ylang ylang in #3. This smells a lot better and "clearer" than Ylang Ylang #3. It's also more potent so a little goes A LONG way.
By:Steven, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 11-Dec-2011
Rating: This one is very strong and almost a bit too much for me beyond just a drop. I like it ok, but might try a different number next time.
Rating: Very potent. A little goes a long way. I am new to this EO. I will have to experiment on blending combinations.

Rating: This Ylang Ylang blends well with several other essential oils that I have sampled. It offers a hint of sensuality that is healing and exotic - the missing ingredient that made my product complete. Clean, fresh, erotic, uplifting, satisfying! Great essential oil!
Rating: Super strong stuff! There's almost a "wintergreen" smell to it which isn't as apparent in weaker ylangs. The strength makes it more challenging to blend with, so I may dilute mine for experimenting.
Rating: Ylang #1 is the alien love-child of carnation, jasmine, and gardenia! There's a toluene-like, narcotic and addictive pull to this fragrance that draws one's mind away from the stressful vicissitudes of life. Transporting, even aphrodesiac, this oil is heavenly.

Rating: A drop or two of ylang ylang and lavender in a bubble bath can change your radio station! Also great with skin care mixtures that contain objectionable smells like neem or carrot seed.
Rating: all i can say is wow! the smell is so potent which is great because it'll last me for months! i love this eo due to the natural fragrance it gives my hair oils.

Rating: I purchased a pound of this stuff because I knew it was a hot commodity and would be great. What I thought I knew was that a little goes a long way. I was wrong, minute amounts of this Ylang, that at first seemed insignificant, will go a hell of a long way. I have made a rule, from now on I will use this Ylang as sort of an aroma accelerant or an uncanny aromatic lagniappe that leaves folks guessing but pleasantly surprised.
I'm glad that I bought the one pounder because this will go into just about every ladies perfume that I make and some of the cologne's too.
Rating: What a beautiful scent! Not only am I using it in soaps and perfumes, I use it as part of my natural flea collar for my dog! Now he smells great and it protected as well; and I don't worry about chemicals around him or my family! Thanks ND!

Rating: Ylang Ylang has a beautiful floral scent. I use it in my hand creams shampoos and conditioner.
By:Shirleen, Markham, Ontario Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 09-Nov-2005
Rating: Next to Ylang Ylang Complete, this is my favorite Ylang Ylang as it is exquistely almost painfully exotic and strong floral scent will only require a small amount for a truly remarkable floral addition to any blend. A MUST HAVE for any aromatherapist. Use with caution as over-use can cause headaches!
