Product Rating: 4.6/5 (As per 31 Customer Reviews)
The Dead Sea is the most saline body of water in the world with far greater concentrations of minerals than any ocean (a concentration of 32% minerals compared to other seas, holding approximately 3%). Bromides and Iodine are known to be present in Dead Sea Salt, along with other minerals in a dried form, such as Magnesium, Sodium, Calcium and Potassium. All these minerals are believed to work together to assist in relaxing the body and soothes to provide a sense of well being .
Our Fine Dead Sea Salt variety is white in color and has a grainy consistency, similar to that of raw sugar. The rough nature of the salt lends itself to skin scrubs (exfoliation) and can also be used with Epsom salts (magnesium sulphate). We recommend you try Dead Sea Salt as a body scrub or just as a relaxing additive to your baths.
Please note: The large flat crystals in the salts are magnesium crystals.
Caution: Heart patients must follow the advice of their physician before taking baths in which magnesium is used.
Body Soak Recipe:
In a small bowl, mix 6 drops Tangerine, 6 drops Grapefruit Pink, and 6 drops Mandarin Essential Oils with 1 tablespoon of honey into 2 cups Dead Sea Mineral Salts. Hop into the bath water and wet your body - don’t make the water too hot or you will get sleepy and relaxed rather than refreshed! Stand while in the bath, and take a handful of the salt mixture at a time and scrub down your entire body. Let the mixture fall down into the tub. Soak for no more than 20 minutes, as this mixture is to refresh and rejuvenate you. Don’t forget to moisturize your skin afterwards!

Rating: Excellent product for making bath soaks AND salt scrubs. For soaks, I add a few shakes of lavender essential oil to 4 cups of salt. For salt scrub, I add sweet almond oil to get the right consistency (less is better) OR I liquefy coconut oil and add that, then mix in the lavender essential oil. Very popular Xmas gifts this year!
I also tried making scrubs with locally purchased epsom salts. Don't waste your time. Epsom salts are too fine, they dissolve in the oils, and they provide unsatisfactory exfoliation.
The 8.8 lb size comes in a roughly 12" tall, 6" diameter, white plastic jar.
The 55 lb size comes in a plastic lined, woven plastic bag, and is VERY heavy. It ships in a box, which may be ripped by the time it arrives at your home. However, if you are making many gifts with the salt, this is a better value.

Rating: I love this product!!! I use it in body scrubs and lotions. It has wonderful healing properties, and is great for individuals with eczema. As someone stated the granules are larger then one would expect from a fine grind, but I do not mind.

Rating: It's been awhile since I've ordered this from NW, so I was very very surprised when my order came and saw a considerable amount of chucks, almost the size of my fingernail. What happened to the "original" fine salt? This is should not be classified as a "fine salt", but rather a "course salt". If that. The consistency is inconsistent so I would only use this for a bath soak, not a body scrub. I must say I'm very surprised.

Rating: I haven't tried the salt yet because of it's color. It looks white in the picture but it is pale beige..
Rating: I am an inexperienced soap/spa/cosmetics maker and this was a great place to start. I added some french lavender essential oil from NDA and mixed with the salt for gifts. I had a hard time deciding between the coarse or fine, but the fine worked perfectly for what I was looking for. Highly recommend and will order again.

Rating: Beautiful salts, they look exactly as pictured, whitish clear with some yellow/brown tinted pieces. From other reviews I knew before I bought it that this salt would be relatively coarse, so it's just what I was expecting. I think NDA makes a mistake in saying the consistency is similar to table salt, but perhaps some batches are finer. A few months ago I mixed this with baking soda and regular sea salt and some essential oils to make really nice bath salts and was surprised last week to find that after the jar had been sitting unused for a few months under my bed, all the dead sea crystals had dissolved and the salts are now moist and clumped together. I don't know why it happened, and I don't think the salts are totally ruined, but it's something to keep in mind.

Rating: Used these salts for the first time and totally enjoyed them. The salts dissolved really fast and were just wonderful with the EOs. Will be getting more for sure.

Rating: Larger pieces than I expected; but I'll just blend them up a little and they'll be fine (I like my scrub salts to be finer). Smells great, you don't even need to add oil to it. Good product

Rating: Just had to write to update. I ground down a little finer and it was PERFECT! Mixed with a little avocado and/or Rice bran oil, it makes the best salt scrub I have ever experienced!
By:Dawn, Virginia Beach, Virginia Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 28-Oct-2010
Rating: The grains were a bit larger than I expected being that it labled "fine". I used them as is mixed with a carrier oil and it still felt pretty good. I am sure that once I grind it down a little finer, I will have a perfect salt scrub. Overall satisfied with the product

Rating: I just made my first salt scrub with this and it is amazing! Mixed with some essential oils, hemp oil and crushed hibiscus flowers, this will be a part of my weekly winter skin treatment. Great for gifts too!

Rating: These salts are wonderful, and they smell so fresh on their own that I sometimes use them without EO's...
Of course blending is the fun part, and so far I've made 4 different types of bath salts...My favorite is a Detox blend with Patchouli, 5 fold Lemon, Basil & Juniper Berry....Smells so good and relaxing too.

Rating: This salt is perfect for an invigorating scrub. I use it along with sesame or grapeseed oil and my favorite Essential Oils for an refreshing exfoliation.
Rating: A bit chunkier than I expected, but a good quality for bath soaks.

Rating: When I opened my jars of Dead Sea Salt I was surprised at first to find moisture! But then while I was perusing the NDA forums it is the brine from the sea salt that makes it seem a little soft to the touch. But sea water is just as 'nutritious' as the concentrated salt itself. Nice fine texture, perfect for homemade body polishes which is exactly what I plan to do with mine!

Rating: These salt have worked great in my scrubs and bath salts. I will continue with this line for my products. They feel so clean!
Rating: This stuff is good. Check out the carrier oils and mix away. I like the almond oil, but just use a bit. The skin will collect the oil in a pretty dry mix. Then I also feel like I am getting the exfoliating and detoxifying benefits more stongly. Just a wonderful salt glow! My favorite scent mix so far is Lemon, Lavender, and Vanilla. I swear it's what sunshine would smell like if you could bottle it!

Rating: WOW, These are great! I love to mix these with baking soda and epson salts, along with my new best friend...Lavender French, for a muscle relaxing and mind soothing bath soak. Just wonderful!
Rating: I love to mix my salts with Lavender Population Essential Oil from France and my Lemon Citrus Limonum from Italy. I use this as gifts for holidays with a blessing of good health and wellness and also as a gift for my self.
I also enjoy adding my Essential Oils to my Rainbow Water Filter Air Purification System running in the night with Lavender to help me relax and sleep, and Lemon oil in the water during the day, it adds a clean sent when doing my chores helping me to get ready to take on the day.
Thank you New Directions for giving us not only excellent quality but also excellent prices.

Rating: I think it is awesome that I have found a reliable source for the Dead Sea salts. I love this salt! I have used them in baths and in masks as well. I will be making a body scrub soon and will be using the fine salts.
My mask is used for a face application so as it was nice to use the salt. I did put it through the blender first, just to give it a delicate consistency that is maybe gentler considering the application.
Rating: This is top quality dead sea salt for an incredible price. Its perfect for my bath salts!
By:Stephanie, Cochrane, Alberta Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 09-Nov-2005
Rating: I have used this in a bath salt creation that is, with the addition of this ingredient, nothing short of pure decadence. I am a nurse, and I find my job extremely stressful at times. This makes taking a bath very luxurious and relaxing, and afterwards my skin is so soft and smooth that even my teenage son notices. Wonderful product.

By:Shirleen, Markham, Ontario Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 09-Nov-2005
Rating: I would not call this a fine consistancy, you can\'t use this in a body scrub without milling it a little further. I would call this medium consistancy, great for bath salts. It\'s a shame too, I was really waiting for this to be re-stocked so I could make scrubs with it.
New Directions Aromatics Response:
Most of the Companies selling Dead Sea Mineral Salts are buying from commercial outlets. We purchase directly from Jordan, and in some cases, the grains will be of varying size. The current lot of Fine Dead Sea Mineral Salt is significantly more fine than the Coarse variety.
