MARKET REPORT JULY 2021

The following report contains updates on the current trends in production and availability of the most in-demand Essential Oils and Carrier Oils sourced from around the globe.

Tamanu Carrier Oil

Tamanu Carrier Oil - Virgin (Madagascar)

Tamanu oil comes from the nuts of Tamanu fruits, which are grown wild in Madagascar and harvested from September through November. While this raw material is abundant, the eventual harvest yield for 2021 will depend on the state of the market for this oil. Demand has been sporadic since the onset of Covid-19 and the impact of the pandemic is still keenly felt. Market conditions remain uncertain moving forward.

Tamanu Carrier Oil - Virgin (Vietnam)

This year's Vietnamese Tamanu crop was harvested between December 2020 and early April 2021. Due to a more favorable rainy season this past year, fruits have grown well, and yield has improved compared to last year. While demand for this oil saw an overseas decrease, the market conditions have not undergone any significant changes recently.

Cardamom Essential Oil (India)

Indian Cardamom will be harvested at the end of the rainy season, in late August to September. So far this year, growing conditions have been highly favorable with a good amount of rainfall. As a result, the standing crop this year has been optimal and farmers anticipate a yield about 15-20% higher than last year, provided the good weather conditions hold. Export demand for this oil has been high, as the offered prices for both oil and oleoresin are at an all-time low. With the current prices, the market is expected to remain stable.

Lemon Organic Essential Oil

Lemon harvests are winding down for the season in Sicily where they run from December to June. 2021 has produced a good crop in terms of both volume and quality, comparable to the crop from last year. Demand for this oil is strong and prices are firm with the potential to rise. Market conditions for this oil are currently stable.

Spikenard Essential Oil

Nepalese Spikenard harvests are currently underway, running from May to July. Crops are grown wild in this region and quotas are fixed. There is strong international demand for Spikenard oil, particularly from India. The market has fluctuated lately with previously high prices, but it is presently stable.

Carrot Seed Essential Oil (India)

Carrot seeds are harvested once a year in India, where crops can be grown throughout the year depending on elevation and irrigation availability. Seeds have been available for oil extraction since April and barring any major interference from conditions surrounding Covid-19, the projected harvest yield this year is anticipated to be comparable to last year. Market conditions for this oil are firm due to strong demand and an increase in price coupled with a gap in supply due to fewer arrivals in the marketplace.

Cedarwood Essential Oil

Cedarwood Essential Oil (Himalayan)

Himalayan Cedarwood is a wild forest crop available throughout the year in India, excepting the months of December and January when snowfall makes wood cutting difficult. Wood prices are controlled by local forest departments and prices were recently subject to a slight rise, but they are stable now. This year's yield is projected to be about the same as the yield last year. Market conditions are stable, and supply is expected to meet demand.

Cedarwood Essential Oil (Atlas)

Atlas Cedarwood is harvested from March to November in Morocco where growing conditions have facilitated a stable supply of this resource so far this year. A similarly stable yield is projected by the time harvests have finished. Both market conditions and demand for this oil are firm and stable.

Tansy Blue Essential Oil

Tansy Blue oil comes from the leaves and flowers of Moroccan Blue Tansy plants, which are set to be harvested at the end of the summer season in August and September. Growing conditions and crop development have been typical this year, however supply is not anticipated to be restored due to low prices and low demand for this oil.
