Guar Gum is derived from the ground endosperm of the guar plant, Cyanmopsis tetragonolobus belonging to the family Leguminosae. The guar plant is mainly grown in India and Pakistan from the month of July to December. At harvest time, the seeds are extracted from the pod of the plant and then ground into guar gum.
Guar Gum is water soluble. When adding Guar Gum to a mixture it is best to add small quantities at a time. Be sure to stir for a while after each addition. If Guar Gum is added too quickly or in large quantities, it will gel or clump together. Guar Gum works well in mixtures that freeze but not in extreme heat or in pH (above pH8 or below pH5). Do not use if your formula contains Borax or Calcium.

Rating: WOW. I have tried so many things to try and thicken my formulations; vegetable glycerin, salt water solution, stearic acid - nothing worked until I met this miracle. I had a tub of hair gel that I made that was like water so I was using it in a spray bottle. When I got this, I put some in it, then a little more and a little more. I stirred and shook and presto. My watery gel became custard! I used it this morning - beautiful hair! I hope this works as well in my body washes and lotions! To top it off, you get a huge tub of it for so little! Awesome.

Rating: Very little goes a long way! Guar gum is a great little thickener. I use only 0.5% in my body lotions (along with 5% Polawax). It seems to cut down the overall oiliness of a lotion/cream a tiny little bit.

Rating: For me the combination of guar and xantan gums works perfectly in lotions and creams.
Unlike other thickeners like chitosan guar gum is absolutely not cranky, it works well in both hot, cool and warm water, does not care much about ph - ideal for stable emulsions.

Rating: Guar gum is an excellent thickener. Also, I tried it as an emulsifier and I got perfect results when making creams and lotions. It is much easier to use than beeswax and you need very little!

Rating: Worked well for me in castille soap to thicken it to a more gel-like consistency. It also may have slightly enhanced the lather. If too much guar gum is used it may settle out over time. I found it best to add it last after all other ingredients were added and mixed. Great "vegetarian" thickener.
Rating: Have your shower base and it is wonderful, but added FO/EO thinned out way too much, Got the Gur Gum and this have shot my sales thru the roof....It makes all the difference in the world so rich and thick and feels great Thanks again ND you have made me a hit again
