Product Abstract: Spikenard is a soft, aromatic herb with a strongly pungent rhizome root. It is native to the mountainous regions of Northern India, as well as China and Japan. Also known as Nard and Musk Root, Spikenard was one of the early aromatics used by the ancient Egyptians and is mentioned in the Bible in The Song of Solomon, and in the Gospel Of John where Mary used it to anoint the feet of Jesus. It was used in ancient Rome in perfumes and beauty preparations. It was also used in culinary recipes from Roman times throughout the Middle Ages, and was used to spice wine and beer.

smells similar to valerian with less animalic undertones. great for blends that require grounding or soothing. Can give orange a nice 'campari' deep bitter smell for example.

Not quite sure how I feel about spikenard yet aroma-wise. I love most base notes but this is a little too bitter and harsh. It does have a nice smoky scent overlay, tho. I wanted to test it out last night in a blend with a couple mild scents to get to know it in my nebulizer but ended up chickening out and adding a drop of my strongest EO (rose geranium) after a few minutes. I think I'll try it with a couple medium strength EO's soon and see how that does for me. If I don't like it after a few tries I see from the comment below me that it has good analgesic properties which great as pain-relief salves and balms are one of the biggest reasons I use essential oils.

Earthy and mysterious, spikenard is absolutely essential for my analgesic rub. It blends well with many other essential oils and provides not only fabulous aroma, but a tremendous healing factor. Spikenard is one of the most costly oils to purchase, and NDA has a great product, at a great price. Bringing down the cost of my products will improve my bottom line, and with NDA there is no loss of quality or potency. Thanks NDA for improving my margin!

If you are a migraine sufferer, Spikenard is a must. The price is a little high, but for the relief I gain, it's worth it.

This naturally groups with cypriol, vetiver, patchouli, and hedychium oils. It is complex, somewhat animalic, with a finish that reminds me of clary sage, but earthy and leathery.

Smells like horses, really, but it is great! I made a mix with shea butter for my mom; her mature skin is looking better already.

Just received my first NDA order, and I am overjoyed at the outstanding quality of everything that I received! Plus, it was all packed beautifully. I also received a hand-written thank you, which has never happened with any other companies from previous orders. I mixed a few drops each of Spikenhard and Clary Sage, as I suffer from insomnia. I put it on my neck, chest, and arms, and then enjoyed a peaceful sleep! Smelled so wonderful, and was so calming! It banished all negative thoughts and feelings as soon as I hit the pillow! I definitely will only order from NDA from now on. Thank you so much for these outstanding products!

What a glorious Spikenard this is! It's almost leathery, "I-need-to-ride-my-Arabian Steed-off-into-the-Desert-sunset" headiness is perfect for my Perfume. I give it 100!

Commonly called False Valerian because it shares many of its attributes, but it is cheaper. Use for allergies, inflammation, insomnia, mature skin, migraine, nervous indigestion, rejuvenating properties, rashes, stress and tension of all kinds. (Also known as False Indian Valerian Root Oil, Nard, Narde.) A very spiritual oil, supposedly used by Mary Magdalene to anoint the feet of Jesus Christ. Used extensively in devotional ritual and meditation. Highly recommended!
